A True Renaissance for Hotel La Trémoille

Famous for being one of the jewels in Paris' realm of
traditional deluxe hotels, La Trémoille opened its doors to its
prestigious guests in June 2002 after 15 months of extensive
renovation.

This restyling has given new life to the hotel which has
succeeded in keeping with our modern culture yet in the same
breath, preserving the architectural heritage of the building and
the site.

The space and volumes have been completely reformatted and
re-designed by Richard Martinet with the hotel now
offering 93 rooms and suites. Richard Martinet, a master of
deluxe hotels' transformations was also behind the refurbishments
of the Four Seasons, the George V and the Pershing Hall in
Paris.

La Tremoille's 19th century building facade was restored
to its original splendour, with particular attention paid to the
mouldings and wrought iron balcony work. The roof was also
refurbished so that the building now fits perfectly into in the
heart of Paris' architectural landscape.

When entering the hotel, a decidedly contemporary style
dominates the atmosphere, even though the rooms and suites still
proudly display the ceiling mouldings and marble fireplaces of the
original structure.

Each of the 93 rooms and suites are individually
air-conditioned and equipped with the latest technologies
- cinema format cable TV, DVD players, free high-speed
Internet connections. All these features have been installed as
discreetly as possible for increasingly demanding business and
leisure travellers.

31 different decorative themes are used in all the rooms and
suites, using a mixture of ochre, browns, maroons, greys and
whites. The deluxe designer furniture and lighting fixtures blend
perfectly with the Nobilis silks.

In the bathrooms, an ingenious triptych mirror decorates
the wall above the marble counters and the hand-woven basketry adds
a warm note to the atmosphere. For additional comfort, the complete
Molton Brown line of bath care products are available for
guests in each of the rooms and suites.

All our rooms are equipped with the 'hatch'. This
unique feature is an individual silent butler closet next to
the room door, with a locked corridor access for room service
and housekeeping staff. Meals and laundry can be delivered through
the hatch without disturbing the guests, who can opt for classic
room service or for hatch service.

Some rooms also have private balconies or bay windows that offer
splendid views over the Paris rooftops.

"What joy to be in the heart of the Golden
Triangle"...

La Trémoille is one of these addresses you wish to keep secret.
I came here for the first time a few years ago and and I have
memories of an intimate, exclusive and cosmopolitan hotel where the
fashion, luxury and business merge together. Today, everyone is
still talking about the hotel and I couldn't resist
returning.

Upon arrival, a smile welcomes me while getting out of my car.
My luggage is picked up and swiftly taken to the hotel lobby,
where I admire the beautiful Haussmannian façade with its
mouldings and wrought-iron balconies.

As I enter the building, I recognise the beautiful Art Déco
stairs and once again, I am charmed by the cosy atmosphere so
characteristic of the Parisian luxury style. I am surprise
when I meet the concierges who remember that I had already
stayed at the hotel. Welcomed as a regular guest, I instantly feel
at home.

Celebrities from all over the world have been coming to
this property since the 30's and certainly had the same
feeling.

Looking around I begin to notice the hotel's new lay-outs: a
larger lobby, extended by a library in the newly renovated Louis²
restaurant bar and lounge. Louis² is very busy at this time of the
afternoon where guests who have just finished their day cross those
who have just started it.

Olivier Lordonnois, the Hotel General Manager, oversees the
running of La Tremoille taking care of his guests so that they
feel comfortable, providing them with all their needs. Hailing from
Paris, Olivier is the best person to help you discover the city and
he will tell you where the best places to visit are, so
you can discover Paris like a local.

I spend a few minutes getting changed before joining a friend at
the bar. I take in all the details of this renovated contemporary
space - the warm Macassar wood furnishings, graphic designs on a
deep carpet, the contemporary armchairs and the silky glints of the
materials used, whilst sipping my 'Louis²' cocktail and listening
to the jazz melodies of the live piano.

The Louis² restaurant has also been entirely refurbished.
Voluminous cubic lamps and extraordinary chain mail curtains
reflecting the hotel's heritage give a structure to the place and
provide a stunning Art Deco atmosphere. The chef Yann Frohn's menu
satisfies the appetites of even the most discerning
guests.

At last, I am glad to reach my room. There are 93 of them at the
hotel, including 5 suites all of which are individually decorated
with a fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. Refined silk
materials in colour tones of browns, greys and off white are used
to give a sensation of comfort, intimacy and well being.

The hotel was originally created in the mid 1920's when the
popular international art deco design movement was born. This
inspired the layout and the decoration of the bathrooms which use
elegant combinations of grey and black marble, wooden mirrors and
retro fittings. Molton Brown amenities are provided for all
guests.

Nothing is lacking at the hotel in terms of technology. Each
room is equipped with a flat screen television, DVD, CD player,
i-Pod connection and Internet access. Curled up on a velvet
armchair, I enjoy the delicious complimentary Ladurée macaroons
whilst admiring the ceiling's marble mouldings and chimney. What a
peaceful moment!

The morning after, as my bath runs, I order room service and
receive a generous continental breakfast brought by a maid a few
minutes later. I could have used the hatch, an ingenuous
system exclusive to La Trémoille, where laundry or room service can
be left without disturbing the guest.

It is a delight to be able to spoil myself, but not forgetting
my good habits, I decide to pay a visit to the hotel's Fitness
Centre, which can be directly accessed by the lift. I watch the
news on the flat-screen televisions while exercising on the cardio
machines before deciding to go and explore the city.

One of the concierges suggests organising a boat tour on the Seine
or a picnic by the riverside next to the most beautiful avenue of
the world. A couple of hours later, I am cutting across the Paris
streets in a convertible 2CV, driven by an inexhaustible guide. La
Trémoille does have a lot of unexpected resources...

The Perfect Place in Paris to Spend a Moment at Any Time of Day
or Evening

Nestled in the heart of Paris' Golden Triangle, La
Trémoille presents its new restaurant, bar and lounge run by
chef Yann Frohn. This is an ideal place to rendez-vous
for both hotel guests and those in search of an intimate, elegant
and casual address in the heart of the city.

Named 'Louis²' (inspired by Louis II, Sire de la Trémoille,
grand chevalier of the Renaissance and ambassador of the hotel),
the space takes on a modern-chic allure designed by architects
Stéphane Satorra and David Duron.

Created with home comforts in mind, it features precious wood
details, the use of a warm colour palette, embroidered fabrics and
luxuriously thick carpets. Graphic lines, geometric patterns and a
modern style recall the thirties with a resolutely contemporary
twist.

The ambiance is discreet, with a piano in the bar and cosy seats
by the fireplace, or in private alcoves - a perfect place to spend
a moment at any time of day or evening.

A Discreet Tribute to the Legendary Louis Armstrong

Having enjoyed a makeover by creative team of interior
architects Stéphane Satorra and David Duron, the Louis² bar and
restaurant has now become the perfect embodiment of our
hotel.

The 'easy-living' era of the thirties have inspired the Louis²
décor, with the use of graphic lines and geometric motifs combined
with contemporary sophistication. The stone structured bar, with
its pure lines was devised to create the perfect place to stop for
a chat.

The cocktails at the Louis² invite our guests on a journey of
discovery whether they are old favourites, new discoveries, or
classics or one-offs.
Fruit purées, luxury alcohol and innovative ingredients are
combined to produce exceptional signature drinks, such as the
Louis² Balsamic Strawberry cocktail. Here, a
distinctive mixture of flavours are used, where the sweetness of
the strawberry is married with the vibrant acidity of the
vinegar.

A slight twist to the classic Cosmopolitan is added, with its
flambéed orange peel, and the Leopard Martini reveals its spots
with passion fruit against chocolate. The Apple Martini has a dash
of caramel in it, while other cocktails pay tribute to the timeless
and unforgettable jazz era of last century.

Live music is often on offer and fills the Louis² with raw
energy, playing tribute to jazz musicians of old ranging from Cole
Porter to Sammy Davis and not forgetting Duke Ellington, Dinah
Washington, Cat Anderson and Louis Armstrong.

Famous Focal Point for the Paris Jazz Scene in the 1960's

Courageous and loyal, he commanded the armies of Charles VIII,
Louis XII and François I, re-established civil peace in the
kingdom, prepared the union of Brittany with France and covered
himself in glory during the wars in Italy. His valour was rewarded
with the titles of Lieutenant General of Poitou, of Angoumois and
of the Marches of Brittany, as well as governor of Burgundy and
Admiral of Guyenne and Brittany.

A great leader, he was also a skilful diplomat saving Burgundy
from Swiss pillage thanks to his eloquence virtues.

Once more under the 'Cavalier King', he shone against the Swiss
during the battle of Marignan in 1515, brought peace to Normandy
and fortified it before failing gloriously on the field of the
battle of Pavie, where François I lost everything 'save
honour'.

The body of the 'Perfect Knight' 'Glory of his House' and
'Honour of his Time' was laid to rest at Thouars, in Poitou.

Rue de La Trémoille owes some of its prestige to this
highly respected knight. The street was named in his honour
and memory by the city of Paris.

A Young Parisian Palace With More Than 100 Years of
History

Built in 1883, the hotel has been entirely renovated several
times. Over the years and through the various embellishments, it
has gradually become an intimate oasis of tranquillity and
comfort.

Originally a private residence of the Dupré family, La Trémoille
was purchased by the Forte Group in 1968 and was subsequently taken
over in July 2000 by The Scotsman Hotel Group. La Trémoille closed
its doors from February 2000 to June 2002 for extensive renovation
costing 24 million Euros.

Music and cinema personalities have always appreciated this
charming hotel located a just a few steps away from the
Champs-Elysées.

La Trémoille was also a famous focal point for the Paris jazz
scene in the 1960's, and the unforgettable double visit of Duke
Ellington and Louis Armstrong in 1961 was recorded for history by
Paris Match.

Today other celebrities come here and appreciate the discretion
and the cosy atmosphere of this pocket-size palace full of hidden
charms.
